Chaudron

Further north lies a hill whose site will give you some chills. It lies at the end of the 117 road on the border with Ontario .

I took a hike up Chaudron hill. Let me tell you that the place is a thrill. Everyone around has climbed this mound even if there's no foothold to be found . Despite the fear , folks sway you into gear ! So there you go with your buddies in tow to climb the mound on the outskirts of town. The climb is a challenge for those living on the edge . The fear builds as you climb closer to the top ledge. The moment is tense being the moment of truth and the thrill of a lifetime since everyone around despite the sheer slopes has climbed that hill whose sheer walls send you a chill. But then you don't have to tell anyone that Chaudron is only a mound worthy of some laughter for those safe and sound . Although the challenge is real for the folks with an ordeal for the passion lives on for those that live by its song...

To be honest, I more than once passed by this amazing hill that stands out like a stark monument in an otherwise flat landscape. The last time a group of friends were tugging themselves to make the ascent. Despite the lack of a formal foothold, the young and old try their luck on this mound hoping to be part of a select group of conquerers which can proudly proclaim that this mound bids no fear .

The immediate vicinity witnessed mining activity from the beginning of the 20th century . It was rumoured that the Kerr Addison mine was by far the world's richest gold deposit...Today nothing much happens since the time of the mines is long gone and the timber companies are singing their last song. But one day maybe the region will revive in the name of a hill that draws passions from young and old alike challenging themselves to take a leap of faith and the climb of their life !
